This on-device storage is essential to how the app works without an account. Clearing cookies alone may not remove localStorage data; clearing “site data” or “cached storage” typically will.

localStorage used for core app functionality is not the same as advertising cookies, but it is a similar technology under some privacy frameworks. We describe it here for transparency.
