Pomofocus
Frequently asked questions
Quick answers about how Pomofocus works, what stays on your device, and how to get help.
What is Pomofocus?
Pomofocus is a free, browser-based focus timer by Vektosys, available at https://pomofocus.vektosys.com. It helps you work in focused intervals with short and long breaks, manage tasks, track sessions on your device, and stay in a simple productivity rhythm inspired by the Pomodoro Technique.
How does the timer work?
Choose a focus, short-break, or long-break mode, set your preferred durations if you want to customize them, then start the countdown. When a session ends, Pomofocus can alert you with sounds and (if enabled) browser notifications so you know when to switch modes. After several focus sessions, take a longer break—then repeat.
Do I need to sign up or create an account?
No. Pomofocus does not require an account. You can open the site and start focusing immediately. Your tasks, settings, and session history stay in your browser’s localStorage rather than in a Vektosys user database.
What keyboard shortcuts are available?
Pomofocus supports keyboard shortcuts for common actions such as starting or pausing the timer and moving between modes. Shortcut availability can vary as features evolve, so check the in-app help or settings panel for the current list on your device.
Can I install Pomofocus as a Progressive Web App (PWA)?
Yes. On supported browsers and devices, you can install Pomofocus as a Progressive Web App for a more app-like experience and quicker access from your home screen or desktop. Look for your browser’s “Install,” “Add to Home Screen,” or similar option while visiting https://pomofocus.vektosys.com.
How do notifications work?
If you allow notification permission in your browser, Pomofocus can send alerts when a timer session finishes. Delivery still depends on your device settings, browser support, and whether the page or installed PWA is allowed to notify you. You can revoke permission at any time in your browser or system settings.
Does Pomofocus play sounds?
Yes. Pomofocus can play audio cues when sessions end or when you interact with certain controls. Sound depends on your device volume, browser autoplay policies, and in-app sound settings. Mute your device or disable sounds in settings if you prefer a quiet experience.
How do tasks work?
You can add tasks, mark them complete, and associate focus sessions with what you are working on. Task data is stored locally in your browser, so it persists across visits on the same browser profile unless you clear site data. Clearing storage, switching browsers, or using private mode may remove your task list.
Is my data private?
Your productivity data—tasks, timer preferences, and session history—is stored in your browser’s localStorage and is not uploaded to a Pomofocus account system. We may still process limited technical information for hosting and security, and third parties such as Google AdSense may use cookies for advertising. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
What are reports and how are they generated?
Reports summarize your focus activity using session data stored on your device. Charts and totals help you see patterns over time without requiring a cloud account. Because reports rely on localStorage, clearing site data will also clear or reset those insights.
Why do I see ads on Pomofocus?
Pomofocus is free to use and may display advertisements through Google AdSense to help support the Service. Ad personalization and cookies are controlled in part by Google and your browser settings. You can manage ad preferences via Google Ad Settings and review our Cookie Policy for more information.
